The inaugural meeting of the Crossakiel and Clonmellon Gun Club took place in the Kilskyre hall early in 1974, the club executive of Paddy Friery, Kit Farrell, Pat Owens, Seamus McCormack, Edward Leavy and Owen Kerins along with the other members of a 12 man committee set about organising the club. Work included arranging permissions and signage for shooting lands, designation of sanctuary areas, the release of pheasants and arranging a clay shoot to raise funds.
There were 31 members in that first year with membership costing £2. The club continued to develop over the intervening years and today membership stands at 61.
